Shia Devotions - View Recitation

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.

1

الٓمٓ
alif lām mīm
ALIF LAM MIM.

2

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ
allāhu lā ilāha illā huwal ḥayyul qayyūm
God: there is no god but He, the living, eternal, self-subsisting, ever sustaining.

3

نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَأَنزَلَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ
nazzala `alaykal kitāba bil ḥaqqi muṣaddiqal limā bayna yadayhi wa-anzalat tawrāta wal-injīl
He has verily revealed to you this Book, in truth and confirmation of the Books revealed before, as indeed He had revealed the Torah and the Gospel

مِن قَبْلُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَنزَلَ ٱلْفُرْقَانَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ ذُو ٱنتِقَامٍ
min qablu hudan linnāsi wa-anzalal-furqān ۗ innal ladhīna kafarū bi-āyātillāhi lahum `adhābun shadīd ۗ wallāhu `azīzun dhun-tiqām
Before this as guidance for men, and has sent the criterion (of falsehood and truth). As for those who deny the signs of God, the punishment is severe; for God is all powerful and great His requital.

5

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْهِ شَىْءٌ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ
innallāha lā yakhfā `alayhi shay-un fil-arḍi walā fis samā-i
There is nothing in the earth and the heavens that is hidden from God.

6

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُصَوِّرُكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ كَيْفَ يَشَآءُ ۚ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
huwal ladhī yuṣawwirukum fil-arḥāmi kayfa yashā-u ۚ lā ilāha illā huwal `azīzul ḥakīm
He shapes you in the womb of the mother as He wills. There is no god but He, the all-mighty and all-wise.

7

هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِنْهُ ءَايَـٰتٌ مُّحْكَمَـٰتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَـٰبِهَـٰتٌ ۖ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَـٰبَهَ مِنْهُ ٱبْتِغَآءَ ٱلْفِتْنَةِ وَٱبْتِغَآءَ تَأْوِيلِهِۦ ۗ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ تَأْوِيلَهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۗ وَٱلرَّٰسِخُونَ فِى ٱلْعِلْمِ يَقُولُونَ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ كُلٌّ مِّنْ عِندِ رَبِّنَا ۗ وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّآ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
huwal ladhī anzala `alaykal kitāba minhu āyātun muḥkamātun hunna ummul kitābi wa-ukharu mutashābihāt ۖ fa-ammal ladhīna fī qulūbihim zayghun fayattabi`ūna mā tashābaha minhub-tighā-al fitnati wabtighā-a ta-wīlih ۗ wa mā ya`lamu ta-wīlahu illallāh ۗ war rāsikhūna fil `il-mi yaqūlūna āmannā bihi kullun min `indi rabbinā ۗ wa mā yadhhakkaru illā ulul-albāb
He has sent down this Book which contains some verses that are categorical and basic to the Book, and others allegorical. But those who are twisted of mind look for verses metaphorical, seeking deviation and giving to them interpretations of their own; but none knows their meaning except God; and those who are steeped in knowledge affirm: "We believe in them as all of them are from the Lord." But only those who have wisdom understand.

8

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْوَهَّابُ
rabbanā lā tuzigh qulūbanā ba`da idh hadaytanā wahab lanā min ladunka raḥmah ۚ innaka antal wahhāb
"Let us not go astray, O Lord, having guided us already. Bestow on us Your blessings for You are the benevolent.

9

رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ جَامِعُ ٱلنَّاسِ لِيَوْمٍ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ ٱلْمِيعَادَ
rabbanā innaka jāmi`un nāsi liyawmin lā rayba fīh ۚ innallāha lā yukhliful mī`ād
You will gather mankind together, O Lord, on a day that is certain to come, and God does not fail in His promise.

10

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَن تُغْنِىَ عَنْهُمْ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَـٰدُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمْ وَقُودُ ٱلنَّارِ
innal ladhīna kafarū lan tughniya `anhum amwāluhum walā awlāduhum minallāhi shay-ā ۖ wa-ulā-ika hum waqūdun nār
As for those who deny, neither their wealth nor their children will help them in the least against God. They shall be but faggots for (the fire of) Hell,

كَدَأْبِ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ
kada-bi āli fir`awna wal ladhīna min qablihim ۚ kadhhabū bi-āyātinā fa-akhadhahumullāhu bidhunūbihim ۗ wallāhu shadīdul `iqāb
Like the people of the Pharaoh, and those before them, who rejected Our signs, and were punished for their sins by God; and the punishment of God is severe.

12

قُل لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ سَتُغْلَبُونَ وَتُحْشَرُونَ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ ۚ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ
qul lilladhīna kafarū satughlabūna watuḥsharūna ilā jahannam ۚ wabi-sal mihād
So tell the disbelievers: "You will surely be subdued and driven to Hell: How bad a preparation!"

13

قَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ ءَايَةٌ فِى فِئَتَيْنِ ٱلْتَقَتَا ۖ فِئَةٌ تُقَـٰتِلُ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَأُخْرَىٰ كَافِرَةٌ يَرَوْنَهُم مِّثْلَيْهِمْ رَأْىَ ٱلْعَيْنِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُؤَيِّدُ بِنَصْرِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَبْصَـٰرِ
qad kāna lakum āyatun fī fi-ataynil taqatā ۖ fi-atun tuqātilu fī sabīlillāhi wa-ukhrā kāfiratun yarawnahum mithlayhim ra-yal `ayn ۚ wallāhu yu-ayyidu binaṣrihi man yashā-u ۗ inna fī dhālika la`ibratan li-ulil-abṣār
There was a token for you in the two armies which clashed (in the battle of Badr), one fighting for God, the other of unbelievers who saw with their own eyes the faithful to be two times as many as they, for God reinforces with His help whomsoever He will. In this is a lesson for those who have eyes.

14

زُيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ حُبُّ ٱلشَّهَوَٰتِ مِنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ وَٱلْبَنِينَ وَٱلْقَنَـٰطِيرِ ٱلْمُقَنطَرَةِ مِنَ ٱلذَّهَبِ وَٱلْفِضَّةِ وَٱلْخَيْلِ ٱلْمُسَوَّمَةِ وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ وَٱلْحَرْثِ ۗ ذَٰلِكَ مَتَـٰعُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَٱللَّهُ عِندَهُۥ حُسْنُ ٱلْمَـَٔابِ
zuyyina linnāsi ḥubbush shahawāti minan nisā-i wal banīna wal qanāṭīril muqanṭarati minadh dhahabi wal fiḍḍati wal khaylil musawwamati wal-an`āmi wal ḥarth ۗ dhālika matā`ul ḥayātid dunyā ۖ wallāhu `indahu ḥusnul ma-āb
Enamoured are the people of the lust of (earthly) pleasures, of women and of children and hoarded heaps of gold and silver, well-bred horses, and tilled land and cattle, all (vain) goods and chattels of the life of this world, while the best of abodes is with God.

15

قُلْ أَؤُنَبِّئُكُم بِخَيْرٍ مِّن ذَٰلِكُمْ ۚ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا وَأَزْوَٰجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَرِضْوَٰنٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ
qul a-unabbi-ukum bikhayrin min dhālikum ۚ lilladhīnat-taqaw `inda rabbihim jannātun tajrī min taḥtihal-anhāru khālidīna fīhā wa-azwājun muṭahharatun wariḍwānun minallāh ۗ wallāhu baṣīrun bil `ibād
Say: "Shall I tell you of (things) even better? With the Lord are gardens with running streams of water for those who keep from evil and follow the straight path, where they will live unchanged with the purest of companions and blessings of God." And under God's eyes are devotees

16

ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ إِنَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ
alladhīna yaqūlūna rabbanā innanā āmannā faghfir lanā dhunūbanā waqinā `adhāban nār
who say: "O Lord, we believe; forgive our trespasses and save us the torment of Hell."

17

ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ وَٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ وَٱلْقَـٰنِتِينَ وَٱلْمُنفِقِينَ وَٱلْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِٱلْأَسْحَارِ
aṣ-ṣābirīna waṣ ṣādiqīna wal qānitīna wal munfiqīna wal mustaghfirīna bil-as-ḥār
They are the patient, the sincere and devout, full of charity, who pray for forgiveness in the hours of dawn.

18

شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمِ قَآئِمًۢا بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۚ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
shahidallāhu annahu lā ilāha illā huwa wal malā-ikatu wa-ulul `il-mi qā-iman bil qisṭ ۚ lā ilāha illā huwal `azīzul ḥakīm
God is witness there is no god but He, and so are the angels and men full of learning. He is the upholder of justice. There is no god but He, the mighty and all-wise.

19

إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمُ ۗ وَمَا ٱخْتَلَفَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعِلْمُ بَغْيًۢا بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
innad dīna `indallāhil-islām ۗ wa makh-talafal ladhīna ūtul kitāba illā min ba`di mā jā-ahumul `il-mu baghyan baynahum ۗ wa man yakfur bi-āyātillāhi fa-innallāha sarī`ul ḥisāb
The true way with God is peace; and the people of the Book did not differ until knowledge (of this revelation) had come to them, out of mutual opposition. But those who deny the signs of God (should remember) He is swift in the reckoning.

20

فَإِنْ حَآجُّوكَ فَقُلْ أَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِىَ لِلَّهِ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَنِ ۗ وَقُل لِّلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ ءَأَسْلَمْتُمْ ۚ فَإِنْ أَسْلَمُوا۟ فَقَدِ ٱهْتَدَوا۟ ۖ وَّإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ
fa-in ḥājjūka faqul aslamtu wajhiya lillāhi wa manit-taba`an ۗ waqul lilladhīna ūtul kitāba wal-ummiyyīna a-aslamtum ۚ fa-in aslamū faqadih-tadaw ۖ wa in tawallaw fa-innamā `alaykal balāgh ۗ wallāhu baṣīrun bil `ibād
Even then if they argue, tell them: "I have bowed in submission to God, and so have my followers." And tell the people of the Book and the Arabs: "Do you submit?" If they do, they will find the right path; if they turn away, your duty is to deliver the message. And God keeps an eye on His votaries.

21

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَيَقْتُلُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
innal ladhīna yakfurūna bi-āyātillāhi wayaqtulūnan nabiyyīna bighayri ḥaqqin wayaqtulūnal ladhīna ya-murūna bil qisṭi minan nāsi fabashhirhum bi`adhābin alīm
To those who deny the signs of God, and slay the apostles unjustly, and slay the upholders of justice, give news of painful punishment.

22

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ
ulā-ikal ladhīna ḥabiṭat a`māluhum fid dunyā wal-ākhirati wa mā lahum min nāṣirīn
Their good deeds will be wasted in this world and in the next, and none will they have to help them.

23

أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَىٰ كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّىٰ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ وَهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ
alam tara ilal ladhīna ūtū naṣīban minal kitābi yud`awna ilā kitābillāhi liyaḥkuma baynahum thumma yatawallā farīqun minhum wahum mu`riḍūn
Have you not seen the people who have received a part of Revelation who are called to the Book of God that it may judge (in their disputes) between them? But some, being averse turn away,

24

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَن تَمَسَّنَا ٱلنَّارُ إِلَّآ أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَٰتٍ ۖ وَغَرَّهُمْ فِى دِينِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ
dhālika bi-annahum qālū lan tamassanan nāru illā ayyāman ma`dūdāt ۖ wagharrahum fī dīnihim mā kānū yaftarūn
For they say: "The Fire will not touch us for more than a few days." They have been deceived by the lies they have themselves fabricated, and stray from their faith.

25

فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جَمَعْنَـٰهُمْ لِيَوْمٍ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَوُفِّيَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
fakayfa idhā jama`nāhum liyawmin lā rayba fīhi wawuffiyat kullu nafsin mā kasabat wahum lā yuẓlamūn
How shall it be when We gather them together on a day that is certain to come, when each will receive his reward without (favour or) wrong?

26

قُلِ ٱللَّهُمَّ مَـٰلِكَ ٱلْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِى ٱلْمُلْكَ مَن تَشَآءُ وَتَنزِعُ ٱلْمُلْكَ مِمَّن تَشَآءُ وَتُعِزُّ مَن تَشَآءُ وَتُذِلُّ مَن تَشَآءُ ۖ بِيَدِكَ ٱلْخَيْرُ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
qulillāhumma mālikal mulki tu-til mulka man tashā-u watanzi`ul mulka mimman tashā-u watu`izzu man tashā-u watudhillu man tashā-u ۖ biyadikal khayr ۖ innaka `alā kulli shay-in qadīr
Say: "O Lord of all dominions, You give whom it pleases You the kingdom, and You take away the power from whosoever You will; You exalt whom You please and debase whom You will. All goodness is Yours (entirely). Indeed You have the power over all things.

27

تُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَتُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ ۖ وَتُخْرِجُ ٱلْحَىَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَيِّتِ وَتُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَيِّتَ مِنَ ٱلْحَىِّ ۖ وَتَرْزُقُ مَن تَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
tūlijul layla fin nahāri watūlijun nahāra fil layl ۖ watukhrijul ḥayya minal mayyiti watukhrijul mayyita minal ḥayy ۖ watarzuqu man tashā-u bighayri ḥisāb
You make the night succeed the day, the day succeed the night, raise the living from the dead, the dead from the living, and give whomsoever You please, and in measure without number."

28

لَّا يَتَّخِذِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَيْسَ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ فِى شَىْءٍ إِلَّآ أَن تَتَّقُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ تُقَىٰةً ۗ وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسَهُۥ ۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
lā yattakhidhil mu-minūnal kāfirīna awliyā-a min dūnil mu-minīn ۖ wa man yaf`al dhālika falaysa minallāhi fī shay-in illā an tattaqū minhum tuqah ۗ wayuḥadhhirukumullāhu nafsah ۗ wa ilallāhil maṣīr
Those who believe should not take unbelievers as their friends in preference to those who believe -- and whoever does so should have no (expectations) of God -- unless to safeguard yourselves against them. But God commands you to beware of Him, for to God you will journey in the end.

29

قُلْ إِن تُخْفُوا۟ مَا فِى صُدُورِكُمْ أَوْ تُبْدُوهُ يَعْلَمْهُ ٱللَّهُ ۗ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
qul in tukhfū mā fī ṣudūrikum aw tubdūhu ya`lamhullāh ۗ waya`lamu mā fis samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ ۗ wallāhu `alā kulli shay-in qadīr
Say: "Whether you conceal or reveal whatsoever is in your hearts it is all known to God, as is known to Him all that is in the heavens and the earth; and God has the power over all things."

30

يَوْمَ تَجِدُ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا عَمِلَتْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مُّحْضَرًا وَمَا عَمِلَتْ مِن سُوٓءٍ تَوَدُّ لَوْ أَنَّ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَهُۥٓ أَمَدًۢا بَعِيدًا ۗ وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسَهُۥ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ رَءُوفٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ
yawma tajidu kullu nafsin mā `amilat min khayrin muḥḍaran wa mā `amilat min sū-in tawaddu law anna baynahā wabaynahu amadan ba`īdā ۗ wayuḥadhhirukumullāhu nafsah ۗ wallāhu ra-ūfun bil `ibād
On the day when every man will find whatever of good he has earned and of evil, and is confronted with it, he shall wish that a distance appeared between him and that day -- (that it were far away). God bids you beware of Him, though compassionate is God to His votaries.

31

قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
qul in kuntum tuḥibbūnallāha fattabi`ūnī yuḥbibkumullāhu wayaghfir lakum dhunūbakum ۗ wallāhu ghafūrun raḥīm
Say: "If you love God then follow me that God may love you and forgive your faults; for God is forgiving and kind."

32

قُلْ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ ۖ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
qul aṭī`ullāha war rasūl ۖ fa-in tawallaw fa-innallāha lā yuḥibbul kāfirīn
Say: "Obey God and His Messenger;" and if they refuse (then remember) God does not love disbelievers.

33

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰٓ ءَادَمَ وَنُوحًا وَءَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَءَالَ عِمْرَٰنَ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
innallāhaṣ-ṭafā ādama wanūḥan wa-āla ibrāhīma wa-āla `imrāna `alal-`ālamīn
God had chosen Adam and Noah and the families of Abraham and 'Imran in preference to others.

34

ذُرِّيَّةًۢ بَعْضُهَا مِنۢ بَعْضٍ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
dhurriyyatan ba`ḍuhā min ba`ḍ ۗ wallāhu samī`un `alīm
They were descendants of one another; and God hears all and knows everything.

35

إِذْ قَالَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُ عِمْرَٰنَ رَبِّ إِنِّى نَذَرْتُ لَكَ مَا فِى بَطْنِى مُحَرَّرًا فَتَقَبَّلْ مِنِّىٓ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
idh qālatim-ra-atu `imrāna rabbi innī nadhartu laka mā fī baṭnī muḥarraran fataqabbal minnī ۖ innaka antas samī`ul `alīm
Remember, when the wife of 'Imran prayed: "O Lord, I offer what I carry in my womb in dedication to Your service, accept it, for You hear all and know everything."

36

فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْهَا قَالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّى وَضَعْتُهَآ أُنثَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا وَضَعَتْ وَلَيْسَ ٱلذَّكَرُ كَٱلْأُنثَىٰ ۖ وَإِنِّى سَمَّيْتُهَا مَرْيَمَ وَإِنِّىٓ أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ
falammā waḍa`at-hā qālat rabbi innī waḍa`tuhā unthā wallāhu a`lamu bimā waḍa`at walaysadh dhakaru kal-unthā ۖ wa innī sammaytuhā maryama wa innī u`īdhuhā bika wadhurriyyatahā minash shayṭānir rajīm
And when she had given birth to the child, she said: "O Lord, I have delivered but a girl." -- But God knew better what she had delivered: A boy could not be as that girl was. "I have named her Mary," (she said), "and I give her into Your keeping. Preserve her and her children from Satan the ostracized."

37

فَتَقَبَّلَهَا رَبُّهَا بِقَبُولٍ حَسَنٍ وَأَنۢبَتَهَا نَبَاتًا حَسَنًا وَكَفَّلَهَا زَكَرِيَّا ۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا زَكَرِيَّا ٱلْمِحْرَابَ وَجَدَ عِندَهَا رِزْقًا ۖ قَالَ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ أَنَّىٰ لَكِ هَـٰذَا ۖ قَالَتْ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرْزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
fataqabbalahā rabbuhā biqabūlin ḥasanin wa-anbatahā nabātan ḥasanan wakaffalahā zakariyyā ۖ kullamā dakhala `alayhā zakariyyal miḥrāba wajada `indahā rizqā ۖ qāla yāmaryamu annā laki hādhā ۖ qālat huwa min `indillāh ۖ innallāha yarzuqu man yashā-u bighayri ḥisāb
Her Lord accepted her graciously, and she grew up with excellence, and was given into the care of Zachariah. Whenever Zachariah came to see her in the chamber, he found her provided with food, and he asked: "Where has this come from, O Mary?" And she said: "From God who gives food in abundance to whomsoever He will."

38

هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِيَّا رَبَّهُۥ ۖ قَالَ رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِن لَّدُنكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ ٱلدُّعَآءِ
hunālika da`ā zakariyyā rabbah ۖ qāla rabbi hab lī min ladunka dhurriyyatan ṭayyibah ۖ innaka samī`ud du`ā-i
Then prayed Zachariah to his Lord: "O Lord, bestow on me offspring, virtuous and good, for You answer all prayers."

39

فَنَادَتْهُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَهُوَ قَآئِمٌ يُصَلِّى فِى ٱلْمِحْرَابِ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكَ بِيَحْيَىٰ مُصَدِّقًۢا بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَسَيِّدًا وَحَصُورًا وَنَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
fanādat-hul malā-ikatu wahuwa qā-imun yuṣallī fil miḥrābi annallāha yubashhiruka biyaḥyā muṣaddiqan bikalimatim minallāhi wasayyidan waḥaṣūran wanabiyyan minaṣ ṣāliḥīn
Then the angels said to him as he stood in the chamber at prayer: "God sends you good tidings of John who will confirm a thing from God and be noble, continent, and a prophet, and one of those who are upright and do good."

40

قَالَ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِى غُلَـٰمٌ وَقَدْ بَلَغَنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ وَٱمْرَأَتِى عَاقِرٌ ۖ قَالَ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱللَّهُ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ
qāla rabbi annā yakūnu lī ghulāmun waqad balaghaniyal kibaru wamra-atī `āqir ۖ qāla kadhālikallāhu yaf`alu mā yashā-u
"How can I have a son, O Lord," he said, "for I am old and my wife is barren?" "Thus," came the answer, "God does as He wills."

41

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱجْعَل لِّىٓ ءَايَةً ۖ قَالَ ءَايَتُكَ أَلَّا تُكَلِّمَ ٱلنَّاسَ ثَلَـٰثَةَ أَيَّامٍ إِلَّا رَمْزًا ۗ وَٱذْكُر رَّبَّكَ كَثِيرًا وَسَبِّحْ بِٱلْعَشِىِّ وَٱلْإِبْكَـٰرِ
qāla rabbij-`al lī āyah ۖ qāla āyatuka allā tukalliman nāsa thalāthata ayyāmin illā ramzā ۗ wadhkur rabbaka kathīran wasabbiḥ bil `ashiyyi wal-ibkār
And Zachariah said: "Give me a token, O Lord." "The token will be," was the reply, "that you will speak to no man for three days except by signs; and remember your Lord much, and pray at evening and sunrise."

42

وَإِذْ قَالَتِ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَٱصْطَفَىٰكِ عَلَىٰ نِسَآءِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
wa idh qālatil malā-ikatu yāmaryamu innallāhaṣ-ṭafāki waṭahharaki waṣṭafāki `alā nisā-il `ālamīn
The angels said: "O Mary, indeed God has favoured you and made you immaculate, and chosen you from all the women of the world.

43

يَـٰمَرْيَمُ ٱقْنُتِى لِرَبِّكِ وَٱسْجُدِى وَٱرْكَعِى مَعَ ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ
yāmaryamuq-nutī lirabbiki wasjudī warka`ī ma`ar rāki`īn
So adore your Lord, O Mary, and pay homage and bow with those who bow in prayer."

44

ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ ٱلْغَيْبِ نُوحِيهِ إِلَيْكَ ۚ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَيْهِمْ إِذْ يُلْقُونَ أَقْلَـٰمَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ يَكْفُلُ مَرْيَمَ وَمَا كُنتَ لَدَيْهِمْ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ
dhālika min anbā-il ghaybi nūḥīhi ilayk ۚ wa mā kunta ladayhim idh yulqūna aqlāmahum ayyuhum yakfulu maryama wa mā kunta ladayhim idh yakhtaṣimūn
This is news of the Unknown that We send you, for you were not there when they cast lots with quills (to determine) who should take care of Mary, nor when they disputed it.

45

إِذْ قَالَتِ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَـٰمَرْيَمُ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنْهُ ٱسْمُهُ ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ٱبْنُ مَرْيَمَ وَجِيهًا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ
idh qālatil malā-ikatu yāmaryamu innallāha yubashhiruki bikalimatim minhus muhul masīḥu `īsab-nu maryama wajīhan fid dunyā wal-ākhirati wa minal muqarrabīn
When the angels said: "O Mary, God gives you news of a thing from Him, for rejoicing, (news of one) whose name will be Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in this world and the next, and one among the honoured,

46

وَيُكَلِّمُ ٱلنَّاسَ فِى ٱلْمَهْدِ وَكَهْلًا وَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
wayukallimun nāsa fil mahdi wakahlan wa minaṣ ṣāliḥīn
Who will speak to the people when in the cradle and when in the prime of life, and will be among the upright and doers of good."

47

قَالَتْ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِى وَلَدٌ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِى بَشَرٌ ۖ قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ ٱللَّهُ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
qālat rabbi annā yakūnu lī waladun walam yamsasnī bashar ۖ qāla kadhālikillāhu yakhluqu mā yashā-u ۚ idhā qaḍā amran fa-innamā yaqūlu lahu kun fayakūn
She said: "How can I have a son, O Lord, when no man has touched me?" He said: "That is how God creates what He wills. When He decrees a thing, He says 'Be', and it is.

48

وَيُعَلِّمُهُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَٱلتَّوْرَىٰةَ وَٱلْإِنجِيلَ
wayu`allimuhul kitāba wal ḥikmata wat tawrāta wal-injīl
He will teach him the Law and the judgement, and the Torah and the Gospel,

49

وَرَسُولًا إِلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَنِّى قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ أَنِّىٓ أَخْلُقُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطِّينِ كَهَيْـَٔةِ ٱلطَّيْرِ فَأَنفُخُ فِيهِ فَيَكُونُ طَيْرًۢا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُبْرِئُ ٱلْأَكْمَهَ وَٱلْأَبْرَصَ وَأُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا تَأْكُلُونَ وَمَا تَدَّخِرُونَ فِى بُيُوتِكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
warasūlan ilā banī isrā-iyla annī qad ji-tukum bi-āyatim min rabbikum ۖ annī akhluqu lakum minaṭ ṭīni kahay-atiṭ ṭayri fa-anfukhu fīhi fayakūnu ṭayran bi-idhnillāh ۖ wa-ubri-ul-akmaha wal-abraṣa wa-uḥyil mawtā bi-idhnillāh ۖ wa-unabbi-ukum bimā ta-kulūna wa mā taddakhirūna fī buyūtikum ۚ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan lakum in kuntum mu-minīn
And he will be Apostle to the children of Israel, (saying:) 'I have come to you with a prodigy from your Lord that I will fashion the state of destiny out of mire for you, and breathe (a new spirit) into it, and (you) will rise by the will of God. I will heal the blind and the leper, and infuse life into the dead, by the leave of God. I will tell you what you devour and what you hoard in your homes. In this will be a portent for you if you do believe.

50

وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَىَّ مِنَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ وَلِأُحِلَّ لَكُم بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ وَجِئْتُكُم بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
wa muṣaddiqal limā bayna yadayya minat tawrāti wali-uḥilla lakum ba`ḍal ladhī ḥurrima `alaykum ۚ waji-tukum bi-āyatim min rabbikum fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn
I (have come to) confirm the truth of the Torah which was sent down before me, and make certain things lawful which have been forbidden until now; and I come to you with a sign from your Lord; so be fearful of God and follow me.

51

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَبِّى وَرَبُّكُمْ فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۗ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ مُّسْتَقِيمٌ
innallāha rabbī warabbukum fa`budūh ۗ hādhā ṣirāṭun mustaqīm
Surely God is my Lord, and your Lord, so worship Him; and this is the right path.

52

فَلَمَّآ أَحَسَّ عِيسَىٰ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْكُفْرَ قَالَ مَنْ أَنصَارِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ قَالَ ٱلْحَوَارِيُّونَ نَحْنُ أَنصَارُ ٱللَّهِ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَٱشْهَدْ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ
falammā aḥassa `īsā minhumul kufra qāla man anṣārī ilallāh ۖ qālal-ḥawāriyyūna naḥnu anṣārullāhi āmannā billāhi wash-had bi-annā muslimūn
When Jesus perceived their unbelief he asked: "Who will help me in the way of God?" "We," the disciples answered, "shall be the helpers of God. We believe in God; and you be our witness that we submit and obey.

53

رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا بِمَآ أَنزَلْتَ وَٱتَّبَعْنَا ٱلرَّسُولَ فَٱكْتُبْنَا مَعَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ
rabbanā āmannā bimā anzalta wattaba`nar rasūla faktubnā ma`ash shāhidīn
"O Lord, we believe in Your revelations and follow this Apostle. Enroll us among the witnesses."

54

وَمَكَرُوا۟ وَمَكَرَ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ
wa makarū wa makarallāh ۖ wallāhu khayrul mākirīn
But they (the unbelievers) contrived a plot, and God did the like; and God's plan is the best.

55

إِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَـٰعِيسَىٰٓ إِنِّى مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَىَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَجَاعِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَىَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ فِيمَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ
idh qālallāhu yā`īsā innī mutawaffīka warāfi`uka ilayya wa muṭahhiruka minal ladhīna kafarū wajā`ilul ladhīnat-taba`ūka fawqal ladhīna kafarū ilā yawmil qiyāmah ۖ thumma ilayya marji`ukum fa-aḥkumu baynakum fīmā kuntum fīhi takhtalifūn
When God said: "O Jesus, I will take you to Myself and exalt you, and rid you of the infidels, and hold those who follow you above those who disbelieve till the Day of Resurrection. You have then to come back to Me when I will judge between you in what you were at variance."

56

فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَأُعَذِّبُهُمْ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ
fa-ammal ladhīna kafarū fa-u`adhhibuhum `adhāban shadīdan fid dunyā wal-ākhirati wa mā lahum min nāṣirīn
Those who are infidels will surely receive severe punishment both in this world and the next; and none will they have to help (or save) them.

57

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَيُوَفِّيهِمْ أُجُورَهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
wa-ammal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti fayuwaffīhim ujūrahum ۗ wallāhu lā yuḥibbuẓ ẓālimīn
But those who believe and do good deeds shall be given their recompense in full; but God does not love the unjust.

58

ذَٰلِكَ نَتْلُوهُ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ وَٱلذِّكْرِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ
dhālika natlūhu `alayka minal-āyāti wadh dhikril ḥakīm
These verses that We read to you are signs and reminder full of wisdom.

59

إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ ءَادَمَ ۖ خَلَقَهُۥ مِن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ
inna mathala `īsā `indallāhi kamathali ādam ۖ khalaqahu min turābin thumma qāla lahu kun fayakūn
For God the likeness of Jesus is as that of Adam whom He fashioned out of dust and said "Be" and he was.

60

ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ
al-ḥaqqu min rabbika falā takun minal mumtarīn
This is the truth from your Lord, so do not be in doubt.

61

فَمَنْ حَآجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا۟ نَدْعُ أَبْنَآءَنَا وَأَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَنِسَآءَنَا وَنِسَآءَكُمْ وَأَنفُسَنَا وَأَنفُسَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَل لَّعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ
faman ḥājjaka fīhi min ba`di mā jā-aka minal `il-mi faqul ta`ālaw nad`u abnā-anā wa-abnā-akum wanisā-anā wanisā-akum wa-anfusanā wa-anfusakum thumma nabtahil fanaj`al la`natallāhi `alal-kādhibīn
Tell those who dispute this with you even after the knowledge that has reached you: "Come, let us gather our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, and pray and solicit God to condemn those who lie."

62

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْقَصَصُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَـٰهٍ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
inna hādhā lahuwal qaṣaṣul ḥaqq ۚ wa mā min ilāhin illallāh ۚ wa innallāha lahuwal `azīzul ḥakīm
And this verily is the true account. There is no god but God, and God is all-mighty and all-wise.

63

فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ
fa-in tawallaw fa-innallāha `alīmun bil mufsidīn
If they turn away (remember) God knows the mischief-mongers.

64

قُلْ يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ تَعَالَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ كَلِمَةٍ سَوَآءٍۭ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشْرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعْضُنَا بَعْضًا أَرْبَابًا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَقُولُوا۟ ٱشْهَدُوا۟ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ
qul yā-ahlal-kitābi ta`ālaw ilā kalimatin sawā-in baynanā wabaynakum allā na`buda illallāha walā nushrika bihi shay-an walā yattakhidha ba`ḍunā ba`ḍan arbāban min dūnillāh ۚ fa-in tawallaw faqūlush-hadū bi-annā muslimūn
Tell them: "O people of the Book, let us come to an agreement on that which is common between us, that we worship no one but God, and make none His compeer, and that none of us take any others for lord apart from God." If they turn away you tell them: "Bear witness that we submit to Him."

65

يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تُحَآجُّونَ فِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَتِ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ وَٱلْإِنجِيلُ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦٓ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
yā-ahlal-kitābi lima tuḥājjūna fī ibrāhīma wa mā unzilatit tawrātu wal-injīlu illā min ba`dih ۚ afalā ta`qilūn
O people of the Book, why dispute about Abraham? The Torah and the Gospel were sent down after him: Do you not understand?

66

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ حَـٰجَجْتُمْ فِيمَا لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ فَلِمَ تُحَآجُّونَ فِيمَا لَيْسَ لَكُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ
hā-antum hā-ulā-i ḥājajtum fīmā lakum bihi `il-mun falima tuḥājjūna fīmā laysa lakum bihi `il-m ۚ wallāhu ya`lamu wa-antum lā ta`lamūn
Remember you are those who disputed the things you knew; so wherefore dispute about things you do not know? And God has the knowledge, while you do not know.

67

مَا كَانَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُّسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
mā kāna ibrāhīmu yahūdiyyan walā naṣrāniyyan walākin kāna ḥanīfan musliman wa mā kāna minal mushrikīn
Neither was Abraham a Jew nor a Christian, but upright and obedient, and not an idolater.

68

إِنَّ أَوْلَى ٱلنَّاسِ بِإِبْرَٰهِيمَ لَلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ وَهَـٰذَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَلِىُّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
inna awlan nāsi bi-ibrāhīma lalladhīnat-taba`ūhu wahādhan nabiyyu wal ladhīna āmanū ۗ wallāhu waliyyul mu-minīn
Of all men the nearest to Abraham are those who follow him, and then this Prophet and the faithful; and God is the protector of all believers.

69

وَدَّت طَّآئِفَةٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَوْ يُضِلُّونَكُمْ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ إِلَّآ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ
waddat ṭā-ifatun min ahlil kitābi law yuḍillūnakum wa mā yuḍillūna illā anfusahum wa mā yash`urūn
Some among the people of the Book wish to lead you astray, yet they lead none astray but themselves, though they do not realise.

70

يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَنتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ
yā-ahlal-kitābi lima takfurūna bi-āyātillāhi wa-antum tash-hadūn
O people of the Book, why do you disbelieve the signs of God having witnessed them yourselves?

71

يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ ٱلْحَقَّ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُونَ ٱلْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
yā-ahlal-kitābi lima talbisūnal ḥaqqa bil bāṭili wataktumūnal ḥaqqa wa-antum ta`lamūn
O people of the Book, why do you mix the false with the true, and hide the truth knowingly?

72

وَقَالَت طَّآئِفَةٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَجْهَ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَٱكْفُرُوٓا۟ ءَاخِرَهُۥ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
waqālat ṭā-ifatun min ahlil kitābi āminū bil ladhī unzila `alal ladhīna āmanū wajhan nahāri wakfurū ākhirahu la`allahum yarji`ūn
A section of the people of the Book say: "Believe in the morning what has been revealed to the faithful, and deny in the evening; they might perhaps turn back;

73

وَلَا تُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِمَن تَبِعَ دِينَكُمْ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْهُدَىٰ هُدَى ٱللَّهِ أَن يُؤْتَىٰٓ أَحَدٌ مِّثْلَ مَآ أُوتِيتُمْ أَوْ يُحَآجُّوكُمْ عِندَ رَبِّكُمْ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْفَضْلَ بِيَدِ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَٰسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ
walā tu-minū illā liman tabi`a dīnakum qul innal hudā hudallāhi an yu-tā aḥadun mithla mā ūtītum aw yuḥājjūkum `inda rabbikum ۗ qul innal faḍla biyadillāhi yu-tīhi man yashā-u ۗ wallāhu wāsi`un `alīm
"And do not believe those who do not belong to your faith." Say: "True guidance is the guidance of God -- that any may be given the like of what has been given you." Will they argue with you before your Lord? Say: "God's is the bounty. He gives whomsoever He please, for He is infinite and all-wise."

74

يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ
yakhtaṣṣu biraḥmatihi man yashā-u ۗ wallāhu dhul faḍlil `aẓīm
He may choose whom He likes for His favours, for great is His bounty.

75

وَمِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مَنْ إِن تَأْمَنْهُ بِقِنطَارٍ يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيْكَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ إِن تَأْمَنْهُ بِدِينَارٍ لَّا يُؤَدِّهِۦٓ إِلَيْكَ إِلَّا مَا دُمْتَ عَلَيْهِ قَآئِمًا ۗ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لَيْسَ عَلَيْنَا فِى ٱلْأُمِّيِّـۧنَ سَبِيلٌ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
wa min ahlil kitābi man in ta-manhu biqinṭāriy yu-addihi ilayka wa minhum man in ta-manhu bidīnārin lā yu-addihi ilayka illā mā dumta `alayhi qā-imā ۗ dhālika bi-annahum qālū laysa `alaynā fil-ummiyyīna sabīlun wayaqūlūna `alallāhil kadhiba wahum ya`lamūn
There are some among the people of the Book who return a whole treasure entrusted to them; yet some there are who do not give back a dinar until you demand and insist, because they say: "It is not a sin for us to (usurp) the rights of the Arabs." Yet they lie against God, and they know it.

76

بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِۦ وَٱتَّقَىٰ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
balā man awfā bi`ahdihi wattaqā fa-innallāha yuḥibbul muttaqīn
But certainly whoever keeps his promise and follows the right path (will be blessed), for God loves those who shun evil and follow the right course.

77

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَا خَلَـٰقَ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَا يَنظُرُ إِلَيْهِمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
innal ladhīna yashtarūna bi`ahdillāhi wa-aymānihim thamanan qalīlan ulā-ika lā khalāqa lahum fil-ākhirati walā yukallimuhumullāhu walā yanẓuru ilayhim yawmal qiyāmati walā yuzakkīhim walahum `adhābun alīm
Those who trade on the promises of God, and who purchase a little gain from their oaths, will have no share in the life to come. God will not address or even regard them on the Day of Resurrection, nor perfect them, and their suffering will be painful.

78

وَإِنَّ مِنْهُمْ لَفَرِيقًا يَلْوُۥنَ أَلْسِنَتَهُم بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِتَحْسَبُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
wa inna minhum lafarīqan yalwūna alsinatahum bil kitābi litaḥsabūhu minal kitābi wa mā huwa minal kitābi wayaqūlūna huwa min `indillāhi wa mā huwa min `indillāhi wayaqūlūna `alallāhil kadhiba wahum ya`lamūn
Among them is a section which distorts in reading the Scripture in a way that though it sounds like the Scripture, in fact it is not; yet they say it is from God, when they know it is not; and they lie about God, and knowingly.

79

مَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُؤْتِيَهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحُكْمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ ثُمَّ يَقُولَ لِلنَّاسِ كُونُوا۟ عِبَادًا لِّى مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِن كُونُوا۟ رَبَّـٰنِيِّـۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمْ تَدْرُسُونَ
mā kāna libasharin an yu-tiyahullāhul kitāba wal ḥukma wan nubuwwata thumma yaqūla linnāsi kūnū `ibādal lī min dūnillāhi walākin kūnū rabbāniyyīna bimā kuntum tu`allimūnal kitāba wabimā kuntum tadrusūn
It is not for a mortal to whom God reveals the Book and the judgement and the prophethood to say to the people: "Be my votaries instead of God's," but (to say): "Become learned in divine law, by virtue of teaching and studying the Book."

80

وَلَا يَأْمُرَكُمْ أَن تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرْبَابًا ۗ أَيَأْمُرُكُم بِٱلْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ
walā ya-murakum an tattakhidhul malā-ikata wan nabiyyīna arbābā ۗ aya-murukum bil kufri ba`da idh antum muslimūn
He will surely not bid you make the angels and the prophets your lords. Would he order you disbelief after you have submitted (and accepted the law of God)?

81

وَإِذْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَـٰقَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ لَمَآ ءَاتَيْتُكُم مِّن كِتَـٰبٍ وَحِكْمَةٍ ثُمَّ جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَكُمْ لَتُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهِۦ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُۥ ۚ قَالَ ءَأَقْرَرْتُمْ وَأَخَذْتُمْ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمْ إِصْرِى ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ أَقْرَرْنَا ۚ قَالَ فَٱشْهَدُوا۟ وَأَنَا۠ مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ
wa idh akhadhallāhu mīthāqan nabiyyīna lamā ātaytukum min kitābin waḥikmatin thumma jā-akum rasūlun muṣaddiqul limā ma`akum latu-minunna bihi walatanṣurunnah ۚ qāla a-aqrartum wa-akhadhtum `alā dhālikum iṣrī ۖ qālū aqrarnā ۚ qāla fash-hadū wa-ana ma`akum minash shāhidīn
Remember when God covenanted the prophets (and said): "If after I have given you the Law and the judgement there comes an apostle to you who confirms the truth already with you, you will surely believe him and help him;" and asked: "Do you accept and agree to the terms of My covenant?" They said: "We accept." "Then you be witness," said God, "and I shall be witness with you.

82

فَمَن تَوَلَّىٰ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ
faman tawallā ba`da dhālika fa-ulā-ika humul fāsiqūn
Then any one who turns away will be a transgressor."

83

أَفَغَيْرَ دِينِ ٱللَّهِ يَبْغُونَ وَلَهُۥٓ أَسْلَمَ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا وَإِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُونَ
afaghayra dīnillāhi yabghūna walahu aslama man fis samāwāti wal-arḍi ṭaw`an wakarhan wa ilayhi yurja`ūn
Do they seek another way than God's? But whosoever is in the heavens and the earth is submissive to God and obedient (to Him), by choice or constraint, and will be returned to Him.

84

قُلْ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ وَإِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَٱلْأَسْبَاطِ وَمَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَٱلنَّبِيُّونَ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ مُسْلِمُونَ
qul āmannā billāhi wa mā unzila `alaynā wa mā unzila `alā ibrāhīma wa ismā`īla wa is-ḥāqa waya`qūba wal-asbāṭi wa mā ūtiya mūsā wa`īsā wan nabiyyūna min rabbihim lā nufarriqu bayna aḥadin minhum wanaḥnu lahu muslimūn
Say: "We believe in God, and in what has been revealed to us, and in what had been sent down to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and their offspring, and what had been revealed to Moses and to Jesus and to all other prophets by their Lord. We make no distinction between them, and we submit to Him and obey."

85

وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمِ دِينًا فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ
wa man yabtaghi ghayral-islāmi dīnan falan yuqbala minhu wahuwa fil-ākhirati minal khāsirīn
And whoever seeks a way other than submission to God, it will not be accepted from him, and he will be a loser in the world to come.

86

كَيْفَ يَهْدِى ٱللَّهُ قَوْمًا كَفَرُوا۟ بَعْدَ إِيمَـٰنِهِمْ وَشَهِدُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلرَّسُولَ حَقٌّ وَجَآءَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
kayfa yahdillāhu qawman kafarū ba`da-iymānihim washahidū annar rasūla ḥaqqun wajā-ahumul bayyināt ۚ wallāhu lā yahdil qawmaẓ ẓālimīn
How can God show the way to those who, having come to faith, turned away, even though they had borne witness that the Messenger was true, and the clear signs had reached them? God does not show the unrighteous the way.

87

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ جَزَآؤُهُمْ أَنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ لَعْنَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ
ulā-ika jazā-uhum anna `alayhim la`natallāhi wal malā-ikati wan nāsi ajma`īn
For such the requital is the curse of God and the angels and of men.

88

خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ
khālidīna fīhā lā yukhaffafu `anhumul `adhābu walā hum yunẓarūn
They shall live under it, and none of their agony decrease nor be respite for them.

89

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
illal ladhīna tābū min ba`di dhālika wa-aṣlaḥū fa-innallāha ghafūrun raḥīm
But those who repent and reform, God is surely forgiving and merciful.

90

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَعْدَ إِيمَـٰنِهِمْ ثُمَّ ٱزْدَادُوا۟ كُفْرًا لَّن تُقْبَلَ تَوْبَتُهُمْ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلضَّآلُّونَ
innal ladhīna kafarū ba`da-iymānihim thummaz-dādū kufral lan tuqbala tawbatuhum wa-ulā-ika humuḍ ḍāllūn
Those who deny, having once come to faith, and persist in denial, will not have their repentance accepted, for they have gone astray.

91

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْ أَحَدِهِم مِّلْءُ ٱلْأَرْضِ ذَهَبًا وَلَوِ ٱفْتَدَىٰ بِهِۦٓ ۗ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ
innal ladhīna kafarū wa mātū wahum kuffārun falan yuqbala min aḥadihim mil-ul-arḍi dhahaban walawif-tadā bih ۗ ulā-ika lahum `adhābun alīmun wa mā lahum min nāṣirīn
From those who deny and die disbelieving will never be accepted an earthful of gold if proferred by them as ransom. For them is grievous punishment, and none will help them.

92

لَن تَنَالُوا۟ ٱلْبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنفِقُوا۟ مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ ۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُوا۟ مِن شَىْءٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِهِۦ عَلِيمٌ
lan tanālul birra ḥattā tunfiqū mimmā tuḥibbūn ۚ wa mā tunfiqū min shay-in fa-innallāha bihi `alīm
You will never come to piety unless you spend of things you love; and whatever you spend is known to God.

93

كُلُّ ٱلطَّعَامِ كَانَ حِلًّا لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ إِلَّا مَا حَرَّمَ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ مِن قَبْلِ أَن تُنَزَّلَ ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةُ ۗ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ فَٱتْلُوهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
kulluṭ ṭa`āmi kāna ḥillal libanī isrā-iyla illā mā ḥarrama isrā-iylu `alā nafsihi min qabli an tunazzalat tawrāh ۗ qul fa-tū bit tawrāti fatlūhā in kuntum ṣādiqīn
To the children of Israel was lawful all food except what Israel forbade himself before the Torah was revealed. Say: "Bring the Torah and recite it, if what you say is true."

94

فَمَنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
famanif-tarā `alallāhil kadhiba min ba`di dhālika fa-ulā-ika humuẓ ẓālimūn
And anyone who fabricates lies about God even after this, is wicked indeed.

95

قُلْ صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُ ۗ فَٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
qul ṣadaqallāh ۗ fattabi`ū millata ibrāhīma ḥanīfan wa mā kāna minal mushrikīn
Say: "God has veritably spoken the truth. So now follow the way of Abraham the upright, who was not of idolaters."

96

إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِى بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًا وَهُدًى لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
inna awwala baytin wuḍi`a linnāsi lalladhī bibakkata mubārakan wahudan lil`ālamīn
The first House of God to be set up for men was at Bakkah the blessed, a guidance for the people of the world.

97

فِيهِ ءَايَـٰتٌۢ بَيِّنَـٰتٌ مَّقَامُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ۖ وَمَن دَخَلَهُۥ كَانَ ءَامِنًا ۗ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ حِجُّ ٱلْبَيْتِ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا ۚ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
fīhi āyātun bayyinātun maqāmu ibrāhīm ۖ wa man dakhalahu kāna āminā ۗ walillāhi `alan nāsi ḥijjul bayti manis-taṭā`a ilayhi sabīlā ۚ wa man kafara fa-innallāha ghaniyyun `anil `ālamīn
It contains clear signs, and the spot where Abraham had stood. And anyone who enters it will find security. And whosoever can afford should visit the House on a pilgrimage as duty to God. Whosoever denies, should remember that God is independent of the peoples of the world.

98

قُلْ يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ شَهِيدٌ عَلَىٰ مَا تَعْمَلُونَ
qul yā-ahlal-kitābi lima takfurūna bi-āyātillāhi wallāhu shahīdun `alā mā ta`malūn
Say: "O people of the Book, why do you reject the word of God when God is a witness to all that you do?"

99

قُلْ يَـٰٓأَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لِمَ تَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ تَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَأَنتُمْ شُهَدَآءُ ۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ بِغَـٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ
qul yā-ahlal-kitābi lima taṣuddūna `an sabīlillāhi man āmana tabghūnahā `iwajan wa-antum shuhadā-u ۗ wa mallāhu bighāfilin `ammā ta`malūn
Then say: "O people of the Book, why do you turn the believers away from the path of God, looking for obliquities in the way when you are witness to it? And God is aware of all that you do."

100

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تُطِيعُوا۟ فَرِيقًا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يَرُدُّوكُم بَعْدَ إِيمَـٰنِكُمْ كَـٰفِرِينَ
yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū in tuṭī`ū farīqan minal ladhīna ūtul kitāba yaruddūkum ba`da-iymānikum kāfirīn
O believers, if you follow what some of the people of the Book say, it will turn you into unbelievers even after you have come to belief.

101

وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنتُمْ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُهُۥ ۗ وَمَن يَعْتَصِم بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدْ هُدِىَ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
wakayfa takfurūna wa-antum tutlā `alaykum āyātullāhi wafīkum rasūluh ۗ wa man ya`taṣim billāhi faqad hudiya ilā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm
And how can you disbelieve? To you are being recited the messages of God, and His prophet is among you. And whosoever holds fast to God shall verily be guided to the path that is straight.

102

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِۦ وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ
yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanut-taqullāha ḥaqqa tuqātihi walā tamūtunna illā wa-antum muslimūn
O believers, fear God as He should be feared, and do not die but submitting (to Him).

103

وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟ بِحَبْلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا۟ ۚ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ كُنتُمْ أَعْدَآءً فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُم بِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓ إِخْوَٰنًا وَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰ شَفَا حُفْرَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ فَأَنقَذَكُم مِّنْهَا ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ
wa`taṣimū biḥablillāhi jamī`an walā tafarraqū ۚ wadhkurū ni`matallāhi `alaykum idh kuntum a`dā-an fa-allafa bayna qulūbikum fa-aṣbaḥtum bini`matihi ikhwānan wakuntum `alā shafā ḥufratim minan nāri fa-anqadhakum minhā ۗ kadhālika yubayyinullāhu lakum āyātihi la`allakum tahtadūn
Hold on firmly together to the rope of God, and be not divided among yourselves, and remember the favours God bestowed on you when you were one another's foe and He reconciled your hearts, and you turned into brethren through His grace. You had stood on the edge of a pit of fire and He saved you from it, thus revealing to you His clear signs that you may find the right way perchance.

104

وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
waltakun minkum ummatun yad`ūna ilal-khayri waya-murūna bil ma`rūfi wayanhawna `anil munkar ۚ wa-ulā-ika humul mufliḥūn
So let there be a body among you who may call to the good, enjoin what is esteemed and forbid what is odious. They are those who will be successful.

105

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ تَفَرَّقُوا۟ وَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتُ ۚ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
walā takūnū kal ladhīna tafarraqū wakhtalafū min ba`di mā jā-ahumul bayyināt ۚ wa-ulā-ika lahum `adhābun `aẓīm
So be not like those who became disunited and differed among themselves after clear proofs had come to them. For them is great suffering.

106

يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ ۚ فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْوَدَّتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ أَكَفَرْتُم بَعْدَ إِيمَـٰنِكُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ
yawma tabyaḍḍu wujūhun wataswaddu wujūh ۚ fa-ammal ladhīnas-waddat wujūhuhum akafartum ba`da-iymānikum fadhūqul `adhāba bimā kuntum takfurūn
On the Day when some faces would be bright, and some others will be black (with despair), those with black faces (will be told): "Having come to the faith you denied it; now taste therefore the penalty for you disbelieved."

107

وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ٱبْيَضَّتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ فَفِى رَحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ
wa-ammal ladhīnab-yaḍḍat wujūhuhum fafī raḥmatil lāhi hum fīhā khālidūn
And those with bright faces shall be under God's grace and enjoy it for ever.

108

تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ظُلْمًا لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ
tilka āyātullāhi natlūhā `alayka bil ḥaqq ۗ wa mallāhu yurīdu ẓul-mal lil`ālamīn
These are the commandments of God We recite to you verily; God does not wish injustice to the creatures of the world.

109

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلْأُمُورُ
walillāhi mā fis samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ ۚ wa ilallāhi turja`ul-umūr
For to God belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth, and to God do all things return.

110

كُنتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ تَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ ۗ وَلَوْ ءَامَنَ أَهْلُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُم ۚ مِّنْهُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ ٱلْفَـٰسِقُونَ
kuntum khayra ummatin ukhrijat linnāsi ta-murūna bil ma`rūfi watanhawna `anil munkari watu-minūna billāh ۗ walaw āmana ahlul kitābi lakāna khayral lahum ۚ minhumul mu-minūna wa-aktharuhumul fāsiqūn
Of all the communities raised among men you are the best, enjoining the good, forbidding the wrong, and believing in God. If the people of the Book had come to believe it was best for them; but only some believe, and transgressors are many.

111

لَن يَضُرُّوكُمْ إِلَّآ أَذًى ۖ وَإِن يُقَـٰتِلُوكُمْ يُوَلُّوكُمُ ٱلْأَدْبَارَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنصَرُونَ
lan yaḍurrūkum illā adhā ۖ wa in yuqātilūkum yuwallūkumul-adbāra thumma lā yunṣarūn
They will do you no harm but annoyance; and if they fight you they will only turn their backs, then no help will reach them.

112

ضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلذِّلَّةُ أَيْنَ مَا ثُقِفُوٓا۟ إِلَّا بِحَبْلٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَحَبْلٍ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَبَآءُو بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْمَسْكَنَةُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ يَكْفُرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوا۟ وَّكَانُوا۟ يَعْتَدُونَ
ḍuribat `alayhimudh dhillatu ayna mā thuqifū illā biḥablin minallāhi waḥablin minan nāsi wabā-ū bighaḍabin minallāhi waḍuribat `alayhimul maskanah ۚ dhālika bi-annahum kānū yakfurūna bi-āyātillāhi wayaqtulūnal-anbiyā-a bighayri ḥaqq ۚ dhālika bimā `aṣaw wakānū ya`tadūn
Degraded they shall live wheresoever they be unless they make an alliance with God and alliance with men, for they have incurred the anger of God, and misery overhangs them. That is because they denied the signs of God and killed the prophets unjustly, and rebelled, and went beyond the limit.

113

لَيْسُوا۟ سَوَآءً ۗ مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ أُمَّةٌ قَآئِمَةٌ يَتْلُونَ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ءَانَآءَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ
laysū sawā-ā ۗ min ahlil kitābi ummatun qā-imatun yatlūna āyātillāhi ānā-al layli wahum yasjudūn
Yet all of them are not alike. Among the people of the Book is a section upright, who recite the scriptures in the hours of the night and bow in adoration and pray,

114

يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَيُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ
yu-minūna billāhi wal yawmil-ākhiri waya-murūna bil ma`rūfi wayanhawna `anil munkari wayusāri`ūna fil khayrāti wa-ulā-ika minaṣ ṣāliḥīn
And believe in God and the Last Day, and enjoin what is good and forbid what is wrong, and who hasten to give in charity: they are among the upright and the doers of good.

115

وَمَا يَفْعَلُوا۟ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَلَن يُكْفَرُوهُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
wa mā yaf`alū min khayrin falan yukfarūh ۗ wallāhu `alīmun bil muttaqīn
And the good they do will not go unaccepted; for God is aware of those who keep away from evil.

116

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَن تُغْنِىَ عَنْهُمْ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَـٰدُهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۚ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ
innal ladhīna kafarū lan tughniya `anhum amwāluhum walā awlāduhum minallāhi shay-ā ۖ wa-ulā-ika aṣ-ḥābun nār ۚ hum fīhā khālidūn
As for those who disbelieve, neither wealth nor children will avail them in the least against God. They are the residents of Hell where they will live for ever.

117

مَثَلُ مَا يُنفِقُونَ فِى هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا كَمَثَلِ رِيحٍ فِيهَا صِرٌّ أَصَابَتْ حَرْثَ قَوْمٍ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَأَهْلَكَتْهُ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَـٰكِنْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ
mathalu mā yunfiqūna fī hādhihil ḥayātid dunyā kamathali rīḥin fīhā ṣirrun aṣābat ḥartha qawmin ẓalamū anfusahum fa-ahlakat-h ۚ wa mā ẓalamahumullāhu walākin anfusahum yaẓlimūn
What they spend in the life of this world is like a frosty wind which smites and destroys the crops of a people who had wronged themselves. God did not wrong them, they wronged themselves.

118

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ بِطَانَةً مِّن دُونِكُمْ لَا يَأْلُونَكُمْ خَبَالًا وَدُّوا۟ مَا عَنِتُّمْ قَدْ بَدَتِ ٱلْبَغْضَآءُ مِنْ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَمَا تُخْفِى صُدُورُهُمْ أَكْبَرُ ۚ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۖ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū lā tattakhidhū biṭānatan min dūnikum lā ya-lūnakum khabālan waddū mā `anittum qad badatil baghḍā-u min afwāhihim wa mā tukhfī ṣudūruhum akbar ۚ qad bayyannā lakumul-āyāt ۖ in kuntum ta`qilūn
O believers, do not make others except your own people your confidants. They will spare no effort to ruin you: They surely desire your annihilation. Hate is on their tongues, and what they hide in their hearts is worse. We have shown you the signs if you have sense.

119

هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ أُو۟لَآءِ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِبُّونَكُمْ وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ كُلِّهِۦ وَإِذَا لَقُوكُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْا۟ عَضُّوا۟ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْأَنَامِلَ مِنَ ٱلْغَيْظِ ۚ قُلْ مُوتُوا۟ بِغَيْظِكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ
hā-antum ulā-i tuḥibbūnahum walā yuḥibbūnakum watu-minūna bil kitābi kullihi wa idhā laqūkum qālū āmannā wa idhā khalaw `aḍḍū `alaykumul-anāmila minal ghayẓ ۚ qul mūtū bighayẓikum ۗ innallāha `alīmun bidhātiṣ ṣudūr
Just think! You hold them as your friends but they do not, even though you believe in all the Scriptures. When they meet you they say: "We believe;" but when they are alone they bite their fingers in rage. Say: "Die of your rage. God is aware of the secrets of the hearts."

120

إِن تَمْسَسْكُمْ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْهُمْ وَإِن تُصِبْكُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَفْرَحُوا۟ بِهَا ۖ وَإِن تَصْبِرُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ لَا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ
in tamsaskum ḥasanatun tasu-hum wa in tuṣibkum sayyi-atun yafraḥū bihā ۖ wa in taṣbirū watattaqū lā yaḍurrukum kayduhum shay-ā ۗ innallāha bimā ya`malūna muḥīṭ
If good comes your way, they are vexed; but if evil befalls you they are pleased and rejoice; yet if you are patient and guard yourselves against evil, their cunning will not harm you in the least, for whatsoever they do is well within the reach of God.

121

وَإِذْ غَدَوْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ تُبَوِّئُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلْقِتَالِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ
wa idh ghadawta min ahlika tubawwi-ul mu-minīna maqā`ida lilqitāl ۗ wallāhu samī`un `alīm
Remember when you set forth in the morning from your house assigning the faithful positions for the battle, God heard everything and knew all.

122

إِذْ هَمَّت طَّآئِفَتَانِ مِنكُمْ أَن تَفْشَلَا وَٱللَّهُ وَلِيُّهُمَا ۗ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
idh hammat ṭā-ifatāni minkum an tafshalā wallāhu waliyyuhumā ۗ wa`alallāhi falyatawakkalil mu-minūn
When two of your bands were about to lose heart God befriended them; and in Him should the faithful place their trust.

123

وَلَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِبَدْرٍ وَأَنتُمْ أَذِلَّةٌ ۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ
walaqad naṣarakumullāhu bibadrin wa-antum adhillah ۖ fattaqullāha la`allakum tashkurūn
For God had helped you during the Battle of Badr at a time when you were helpless. So act in compliance with the laws of God; you may well be grateful.

124

إِذْ تَقُولُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَلَن يَكْفِيَكُمْ أَن يُمِدَّكُمْ رَبُّكُم بِثَلَـٰثَةِ ءَالَـٰفٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ مُنزَلِينَ
idh taqūlu lil-mu-minīna alan yakfiyakum an yumiddakum rabbukum bithalāthati ālāfin minal malā-ikati munzalīn
Remember when you said to the faithful: "Is it not sufficient that your Lord should send for your help three thousand angels from the heavens?

125

بَلَىٰٓ ۚ إِن تَصْبِرُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ وَيَأْتُوكُم مِّن فَوْرِهِمْ هَـٰذَا يُمْدِدْكُمْ رَبُّكُم بِخَمْسَةِ ءَالَـٰفٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ مُسَوِّمِينَ
balā ۚ in taṣbirū watattaqū waya-tūkum min fawrihim hādhā yumdidkum rabbukum bikhamsati ālāfin minal malā-ikati musawwimīn
Indeed if you are patient and take heed for yourselves, and the (enemy) come rushing at you suddenly your Lord will send even five thousand angels on chargers sweeping down."

126

وَمَا جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشْرَىٰ لَكُمْ وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ قُلُوبُكُم بِهِۦ ۗ وَمَا ٱلنَّصْرُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ
wa mā ja`alahullāhu illā bushrā lakum walitaṭma-inna qulūbukum bih ۗ wa man naṣru illā min `indillāhil `azīzil ḥakīm
And God did not do so but as good tidings for you, and to reassure your hearts for victory comes from God alone, the all-mighty and all-wise --

127

لِيَقْطَعَ طَرَفًا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَوْ يَكْبِتَهُمْ فَيَنقَلِبُوا۟ خَآئِبِينَ
liyaqṭa`a ṭarafan minal ladhīna kafarū aw yakbitahum fayanqalibū khā-ibīn
In order that He may cut off a part of unbelievers or overthrow them, and they turn back in frustration.

128

لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ شَىْءٌ أَوْ يَتُوبَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَوْ يُعَذِّبَهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ ظَـٰلِمُونَ
laysa laka minal-amri shay-un aw yatūba `alayhim aw yu`adhhibahum fa-innahum ẓālimūn
You have no say in the matter if He pardon them or punish them, for they are unjust.

129

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ يَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
walillāhi mā fis samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ ۚ yaghfiru liman yashā-u wayu`adhhibu man yashā-u ۚ wallāhu ghafūrun raḥīm
To God belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth: He may pardon whom He please and punish whom He will. Yet God is forgiving and kind.

130

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَأْكُلُوا۟ ٱلرِّبَوٰٓا۟ أَضْعَـٰفًا مُّضَـٰعَفَةً ۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū lā ta-kulur ribā aḍ`āfan muḍā`afah ۖ wattaqullāha la`allakum tufliḥūn
O you who believe, do not practice usury, charging doubled and redoubled (interest); but have fear of God: you may well attain your goal.

131

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
wattaqun nāral latī u`iddat lilkāfirīn
Keep away from the Fire prepared for the infidels;

132

وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
wa-aṭī`ullāha war rasūla la`allakum turḥamūn
Obey God and the Prophet, that you may be treated with mercy.

133

وَسَارِعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
wasāri`ū ilā maghfiratim min rabbikum wajannatin `arḍuhas samāwātu wal-arḍu u`iddat lil-muttaqīn
And hasten for the pardon of your Lord, and for Paradise extending over the heavens and the earth, laid out for those who take heed for themselves and fear God,

134

ٱلَّذِينَ يُنفِقُونَ فِى ٱلسَّرَّآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ وَٱلْكَـٰظِمِينَ ٱلْغَيْظَ وَٱلْعَافِينَ عَنِ ٱلنَّاسِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
alladhīna yunfiqūna fis sarrā-i waḍ ḍarrā-i wal kāẓimīnal ghayẓa wal `āfīna `anin nās ۗ wallāhu yuḥibbul muḥsinīn
Who expend both in joy and tribulation, who suppress their anger and pardon their fellowmen; and God loves those who are upright and do good,

135

وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَـٰحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَن يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُوا۟ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ
wal ladhīna idhā fa`alū fāḥishatan aw ẓalamū anfusahum dhakarullāha fastaghfarū lidhunūbihim wa man yaghfirudh dhunūba illallāhu walam yuṣirrū `alā mā fa`alū wahum ya`lamūn
And those who, if they commit a shameful act or some wrong against themselves, remember God and seek forgiveness for their sins: For who can forgive except God? They should not be perverse about their doings, knowingly.

136

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ جَزَآؤُهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَجَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ وَنِعْمَ أَجْرُ ٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ
ulā-ika jazā-uhum maghfiratun min rabbihim wajannātun tajrī min taḥtihal-anhāru khālidīna fīhā ۚ wani`ma ajrul `āmilīn
Their recompense is pardon by their Lord, and gardens with streams of running water where they will abide for ever. How fair is the recompense of those who act!

137

قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ سُنَنٌ فَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ
qad khalat min qablikum sunanun fasīrū fil-arḍi fanẓurū kayfa kāna `āqibatul mukadhhibīn
There have been many dispensations before you; so travel in the land and see what befell those who denied the truth.

138

هَـٰذَا بَيَانٌ لِّلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ
hādhā bayānul linnāsi wahudan wa maw`iẓatun lil-muttaqīn
This is a clear declaration for mankind, and a guidance and a warning for those who preserve themselves from evil.

139

وَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا۟ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
walā tahinū walā taḥzanū wa-antumul-a`lawna in kuntum mu-minīn
So do not lose heart or be grieved, for you will surely prevail if you are believers.

140

إِن يَمْسَسْكُمْ قَرْحٌ فَقَدْ مَسَّ ٱلْقَوْمَ قَرْحٌ مِّثْلُهُۥ ۚ وَتِلْكَ ٱلْأَيَّامُ نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَيَتَّخِذَ مِنكُمْ شُهَدَآءَ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
in yamsaskum qarḥun faqad massal qawma qarḥun mithluh ۚ watilkal-ayyāmu nudāwiluhā baynan nāsi waliya`lamallāhul ladhīna āmanū wayattakhidha minkum shuhadā-a ۗ wallāhu lā yuḥibbuẓ ẓālimīn
If you have been wounded they too have suffered a wound. We cause this alternation of night and day in the affairs of men so that God may know those who believe, taking some as witness (of truth) from your ranks, for God does not like those who are unjust.

141

وَلِيُمَحِّصَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَيَمْحَقَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
waliyumaḥḥiṣallāhul ladhīna āmanū wayamḥaqal kāfirīn
This is so that God may try the faithful and destroy the unbelievers.

142

أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَن تَدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَيَعْلَمَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
am ḥasibtum an tadkhulul jannata walammā ya`lamillāhul ladhīna jāhadū minkum waya`lamaṣ ṣābirīn
Do you think you will go to Paradise while God does not know who among you strive and persist?

143

وَلَقَدْ كُنتُمْ تَمَنَّوْنَ ٱلْمَوْتَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن تَلْقَوْهُ فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُمُوهُ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ
walaqad kuntum tamannawnal mawta min qabli an talqawhu faqad ra-aytumūhu wa-antum tanẓurūn
You had wished to know death before you faced it (in battle); so now you have seen it before your own eyes.

144

وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ إِلَّا رَسُولٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِ ٱلرُّسُلُ ۚ أَفَإِي۟ن مَّاتَ أَوْ قُتِلَ ٱنقَلَبْتُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ ۚ وَمَن يَنقَلِبْ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَيْهِ فَلَن يَضُرَّ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًٔا ۗ وَسَيَجْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ
wa mā muḥammadun illā rasūlun qad khalat min qablihir rusul ۚ afa-in māta aw qutilan-qalabtum `alā a`qābikum ۚ wa man yanqalib `alā `aqibayhi falan yaḍurrallāha shay-ā ۗ wasayajzillāhush shākirīn
Muhammad is only a messenger; and many a messenger has gone before him. So what if he dies or is killed! Will you turn back and go away in haste? But he who turns back and goes away in haste will do no harm to God. But God will reward those who give thanks (and are grateful).

145

وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفْسٍ أَن تَمُوتَ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ كِتَـٰبًا مُّؤَجَّلًا ۗ وَمَن يُرِدْ ثَوَابَ ٱلدُّنْيَا نُؤْتِهِۦ مِنْهَا وَمَن يُرِدْ ثَوَابَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ نُؤْتِهِۦ مِنْهَا ۚ وَسَنَجْزِى ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ
wa mā kāna linafsin an tamūta illā bi-idhnillāhi kitāban mu-ajjalā ۗ wa man yurid thawābad dunyā nu-tihi minhā wa man yurid thawābal-ākhirati nu-tihi minhā ۚ wasanajzish shākirīn
No one can die before his appointed term except in accordance with the law of God. And to him who desires a reward in this world, We shall give it; and to him who desires a reward in the life to come, We shall do that. We shall certainly reward those who are grateful.

146

وَكَأَيِّن مِّن نَّبِىٍّ قَـٰتَلَ مَعَهُۥ رِبِّيُّونَ كَثِيرٌ فَمَا وَهَنُوا۟ لِمَآ أَصَابَهُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا ضَعُفُوا۟ وَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
waka-ayyin min nabiyyin qātala ma`ahu ribbiyyūna kathīrun famā wahanū limā aṣābahum fī sabīlillāhi wa mā ḍa`ufū wa mas-takānū ۗ wallāhu yuḥibbuṣ ṣābirīn
Many a seeker after God has fought in the way of God by the side of many an apostle, undaunted (by disaster), and did not disgrace themselves; -- verily God loves those who are steadfast.

147

وَمَا كَانَ قَوْلَهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِىٓ أَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَٱنصُرْنَا عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
wa mā kāna qawlahum illā an qālū rabbanagh-fir lanā dhunūbanā wa isrāfanā fī amrinā wathabbit aqdāmanā wanṣurnā `alal-qawmil kāfirīn
Nor did they say aught but: "O our Lord, forgive us our sins and excesses in our acts, and steady our steps, and help us against unbelieving people."

148

فَـَٔاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ثَوَابَ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَحُسْنَ ثَوَابِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
fa-ātāhumullāhu thawābad dunyā waḥusna thawābil-ākhirah ۗ wallāhu yuḥibbul muḥsinīn
So God rewarded them in this world, and a better reward awaits them in the next; for God loves those who do good.

149

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تُطِيعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَرُدُّوكُمْ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْقَـٰبِكُمْ فَتَنقَلِبُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِينَ
yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū in tuṭī`ul ladhīna kafarū yaruddūkum `alā a`qābikum fatanqalibū khāsirīn
O believers, if you listen to the infidels they will make you turn your backs, and you will be the losers.

150

بَلِ ٱللَّهُ مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلنَّـٰصِرِينَ
balillāhu mawlākum ۖ wahuwa khayrun nāṣirīn
But God is your protector, and He is the best of helpers.

151

سَنُلْقِى فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلرُّعْبَ بِمَآ أَشْرَكُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا ۖ وَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ ۚ وَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
sanulqī fī qulūbil ladhīna kafarur ru`ba bimā ashrakū billāhi mā lam yunazzil bihi sulṭānā ۖ wa ma-wāhumun nār ۚ wabi-sa mathwaẓ ẓālimīn
We shall strike terror into the hearts of unbelievers for ascribing compeers to God for which He has sent down no sanction. Hell is their residence, the evil abode of the unjust.

152

وَلَقَدْ صَدَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَعْدَهُۥٓ إِذْ تَحُسُّونَهُم بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَشِلْتُمْ وَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ وَعَصَيْتُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَآ أَرَىٰكُم مَّا تُحِبُّونَ ۚ مِنكُم مَّن يُرِيدُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَمِنكُم مَّن يُرِيدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ ثُمَّ صَرَفَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ لِيَبْتَلِيَكُمْ ۖ وَلَقَدْ عَفَا عَنكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
walaqad ṣadaqakumullāhu wa`dahu idh taḥussūnahum bi-idhnih ۖ ḥattā idhā fashiltum watanāza`tum fil-amri wa`aṣaytum min ba`di mā arākum mā tuḥibbūn ۚ minkum man yurīdud dunyā wa minkum man yurīdul-ākhirah ۚ thumma ṣarafakum `anhum liyabtaliyakum ۖ walaqad `afā `ankum ۗ wallāhu dhū faḍlin `alal-mu-minīn
The promise made to you by God was verified when you destroyed (the foe) by His leave, until you were unmanned and disputed the order, and thus disobeyed (the Apostle) even after He had brought you in sight of (victory) you longed for. Some of you desired this world, and some of you the next. Then He put you to flight before (them) in order to try you. But (now) He has forgiven you, for surely God is kind to the faithful.

153

إِذْ تُصْعِدُونَ وَلَا تَلْوُۥنَ عَلَىٰٓ أَحَدٍ وَٱلرَّسُولُ يَدْعُوكُمْ فِىٓ أُخْرَىٰكُمْ فَأَثَـٰبَكُمْ غَمًّۢا بِغَمٍّ لِّكَيْلَا تَحْزَنُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمْ وَلَا مَآ أَصَـٰبَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ
idh tuṣ`idūna walā talwūna `alā aḥadin war rasūlu yad`ūkum fī ukhrākum fa-athābakum ghamman bighammin likaylā taḥzanū `alā mā fātakum walā mā aṣābakum ۗ wallāhu khabīrun bimā ta`malūn
Remember, as you were rushing up (the hill) without turning back to look, though the Prophet was calling you from the rear, He requited you with anguish for an anguish that you do not fret for missed opportunity and what befell you, for God is aware of all that you do,

154

ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاسًا يَغْشَىٰ طَآئِفَةً مِّنكُمْ ۖ وَطَآئِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّهِ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ ظَنَّ ٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ ۖ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ مِن شَىْءٍ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُۥ لِلَّهِ ۗ يُخْفُونَ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِم مَّا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَ ۖ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ شَىْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَـٰهُنَا ۗ قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَتْلُ إِلَىٰ مَضَاجِعِهِمْ ۖ وَلِيَبْتَلِىَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِى صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ
thumma anzala `alaykum min ba`dil ghammi amanatan nu`āsan yaghshā ṭā-ifatan minkum ۖ waṭā-ifatun qad ahammat-hum anfusuhum yaẓunnūna billāhi ghayral ḥaqqi ẓannal jāhiliyyah ۖ yaqūlūna hal lanā minal-amri min shay-ī ۗ qul innal-amra kullahu lillāh ۗ yukhfūna fī anfusihim mā lā yubdūna lak ۖ yaqūlūna law kāna lanā minal-amri shay-un mā qutilnā hāhunā ۗ qul law kuntum fī buyūtikum labarazal ladhīna kutiba `alayhimul qatlu ilā maḍāji`ihim ۖ waliyabtaliyallāhu mā fī ṣudūrikum waliyumaḥḥiṣa mā fī qulūbikum ۗ wallāhu `alīmun bidhātiṣ ṣudūr
Then after affliction He Sent you a drowsiness as comes after security, overwhelming some among you, and making some anxious for themselves, and made them think thoughts of pagan ignorance; and they said: "Have we a say in any affair?" Say: "All affairs rest with God." They hide in their hearts what they do not disclose to you. They say: "If we had a say in the affair we would not have been killed in this place." Tell them: "Even had you stayed at home, those of you who were ordained to fight would have gone to their place of (eternal) rest. God had to try them to bring out what they concealed in their breasts, and to bring out the secrets of their hearts, for God knows your innermost thoughts.

155

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَوَلَّوْا۟ مِنكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِ إِنَّمَا ٱسْتَزَلَّهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ بِبَعْضِ مَا كَسَبُوا۟ ۖ وَلَقَدْ عَفَا ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ حَلِيمٌ
innal ladhīna tawallaw minkum yawmal taqal jam`āni innamas-tazallahumush shayṭānu biba`ḍi mā kasabū ۖ walaqad `afallāhu `anhum ۗ innallāha ghafūrun ḥalīm
All those among you who turned their backs on the day the two armies clashed (at 'Uhud) were surely induced by Satan to fail in their duty because of their sinful deeds. But God has already forgiven them, for God is forgiving and kind.

156

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقَالُوا۟ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ إِذَا ضَرَبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَوْ كَانُوا۟ غُزًّى لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ عِندَنَا مَا مَاتُوا۟ وَمَا قُتِلُوا۟ لِيَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ حَسْرَةً فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ
yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū lā takūnū kal ladhīna kafarū waqālū li-ikhwānihim idhā ḍarabū fil-arḍi aw kānū ghuzzan law kānū `indanā mā mātū wa mā qutilū liyaj`alallāhu dhālika ḥasratan fī qulūbihim ۗ wallāhu yuḥyī wayumīt ۗ wallāhu bimā ta`malūna baṣīr
O you who believe, do not be like those who deny, and say of their brethren (who died) travelling in the land or fighting: "Had they stayed with us here they would not have died or been killed." This happened so that God may fill their hearts with grief. God is the giver of life and death and sees all that you do.

157

وَلَئِن قُتِلْتُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ مُتُّمْ لَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَحْمَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ
wala-in qutiltum fī sabīlillāhi aw muttum lamaghfiratun minallāhi waraḥmatun khayrun mimmā yajma`ūn
If you are killed in the cause of God or you die, the forgiveness and mercy of God are better than all that you amass.

158

وَلَئِن مُّتُّمْ أَوْ قُتِلْتُمْ لَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُحْشَرُونَ
wala-in muttum aw qutiltum la-ilallāhi tuḥsharūn
And if you die or are killed, even so it is to God that you will return.

159

فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ كُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ ٱلْقَلْبِ لَٱنفَضُّوا۟ مِنْ حَوْلِكَ ۖ فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ
fabimā raḥmatim minallāhi linta lahum ۖ walaw kunta faẓẓan ghalīẓal qalbi lanfaḍḍū min ḥawlik ۖ fa`fu `anhum wastaghfir lahum washāwirhum fil-amr ۖ fa-idhā `azamta fatawakkal `alallāh ۚ innallāha yuḥibbul mutawakkilīn
It was through God's mercy that you dealt with them gently; for had you been stern and hard of heart they would surely have broken away from you. So pardon them and pray that forgiveness be theirs, and seek their counsel in all affairs, And when you have come to a decision place your trust in God alone, for He loves those who place their trust in Him.

160

إِن يَنصُرْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا غَالِبَ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَخْذُلْكُمْ فَمَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَنصُرُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
in yanṣurkumullāhu falā ghāliba lakum ۖ wa in yakhdhulkum faman dhal ladhī yanṣurukum min ba`dih ۗ wa`alallāhi falyatawakkalil mu-minūn
If God is there to help you none will overcome you; and if He forsake you, who will help you other than Him? So only in God should the faithful place their trust.

161

وَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِىٍّ أَن يَغُلَّ ۚ وَمَن يَغْلُلْ يَأْتِ بِمَا غَلَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ ثُمَّ تُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ
wa mā kāna linabiyyin an yaghull ۚ wa man yaghlul ya-ti bimā ghalla yawmal qiyāmah ۚ thumma tuwaffā kullu nafsin mā kasabat wahum lā yuẓlamūn
It is not for a prophet to be false; and whoever is false will indeed bring his falsehood with him on the Day of Reckoning when each will receive his reward without favour or wrong.

162

أَفَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ رِضْوَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ كَمَنۢ بَآءَ بِسَخَطٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَأْوَىٰهُ جَهَنَّمُ ۚ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ
afamanit-taba`a riḍwānallāhi kaman bā-a bisakhaṭin minallāhi wa ma-wāhu jahannam ۚ wabi-sal maṣīr
Is a man who has followed the pleasure of God the same as he who has incurred His wrath, whose abode is surely Hell, a dreadful place?

163

هُمْ دَرَجَـٰتٌ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ
hum darajātun `indallāh ۗ wallāhu baṣīrun bimā ya`malūn
There are different ranks with God, And God sees everything you do.

164

لَقَدْ مَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَى ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ بَعَثَ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ يَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَإِن كَانُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ لَفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ
laqad mannallāhu `alal-mu-minīna idh ba`atha fīhim rasūlan min anfusihim yatlū `alayhim āyātihi wayuzakkīhim wayu`allimuhumul kitāba wal ḥikmata wa in kānū min qablu lafī ḍalālin mubīn
God has favoured the faithful by sending an apostle to them from among themselves, who recites to them His messages, and reforms and teaches them the Law and the judgement, for they were clearly in error before.

165

أَوَلَمَّآ أَصَـٰبَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَدْ أَصَبْتُم مِّثْلَيْهَا قُلْتُمْ أَنَّىٰ هَـٰذَا ۖ قُلْ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ أَنفُسِكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
awalammā aṣābatkum muṣībatun qad aṣabtum mithlayhā qultum annā hādhā ۖ qul huwa min `indi anfusikum ۗ innallāha `alā kulli shay-in qadīr
How is it that when misfortune befell you, you said: "Where has this come from?" -- even though you had inflicted disaster twice as great on (the enemy). Say: "This has come from your own selves." Surely God has power over all things.

166

وَمَآ أَصَـٰبَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِ فَبِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
wa mā aṣābakum yawmal taqal jam`āni fabi-idhnillāhi waliya`lamal mu-minīn
What you suffered on the day the two armies had met was by God's dispensation, so that He may distinguish the faithful,

167

وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ ۚ وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ قَـٰتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدْفَعُوا۟ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ نَعْلَمُ قِتَالًا لَّٱتَّبَعْنَـٰكُمْ ۗ هُمْ لِلْكُفْرِ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَقْرَبُ مِنْهُمْ لِلْإِيمَـٰنِ ۚ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَكْتُمُونَ
waliya`lamal ladhīna nāfaqū ۚ waqīla lahum ta`ālaw qātilū fī sabīlillāhi awid-fa`ū ۖ qālū law na`lamu qitālal lattaba`nākum ۗ hum lilkufri yawma-idhin aqrabu minhum lil-iymān ۚ yaqūlūna bi-afwāhihim mā laysa fī qulūbihim ۗ wallāhu a`lamu bimā yaktumūn
And may distinguish the hypocrites who were told: "Fight in the way of God, or defend yourselves," and who had replied: "If we knew of the fight we would have followed you." They were nearer unbelief than faith on that day, and they said with their tongues what was not in their hearts; but God is aware of what they hide.

168

ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ وَقَعَدُوا۟ لَوْ أَطَاعُونَا مَا قُتِلُوا۟ ۗ قُلْ فَٱدْرَءُوا۟ عَنْ أَنفُسِكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
alladhīna qālū li-ikhwānihim waqa`adū law aṭā`ūnā mā qutilū ۗ qul fadra-ū `an anfusikumul mawta in kuntum ṣādiqīn
To those who sit at home and say of their brothers: "They would never have been killed had they listened to us, say: "Drive away death from your midst if what you say is true."

169

وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَمْوَٰتًۢا ۚ بَلْ أَحْيَآءٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ
walā taḥsabannal ladhīna qutilū fī sabīlillāhi amwātā ۚ bal aḥyā-un `inda rabbihim yurzaqūn
Never think that those who are killed in the way of God are dead. They are alive, getting succour from their Lord,

170

فَرِحِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَلْحَقُوا۟ بِهِم مِّنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَلَّا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
fariḥīna bimā ātāhumullāhu min faḍlihi wayastabshirūna bil ladhīna lam yalḥaqū bihim min khalfihim allā khawfun `alayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn
Rejoicing at what God has given them of His grace, and happy for those who are trying to overtake them but have not joined them yet, and who will have no fear or regret.

171

يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَفَضْلٍ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
yastabshirūna bini`matim minallāhi wafaḍlin wa-annallāha lā yuḍī`u ajral mu-minīn
They rejoice at the kindness and mercy of God; and God does not suffer the wages of the faithful to go waste.

172

ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْقَرْحُ ۚ لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ وَٱتَّقَوْا۟ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ
alladhīnas-tajābū lillāhi war rasūli min ba`di mā aṣābahumul qarḥ ۚ lilladhīna aḥsanū minhum wattaqaw ajrun `aẓīm
Those who obeyed the call of God and His Messenger, even after they were wounded, and took heed for themselves, shall indeed have an ample reward,

173

ٱلَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا۟ لَكُمْ فَٱخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَـٰنًا وَقَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ ٱلْوَكِيلُ
alladhīna qāla lahumun nāsu innan nāsa qad jama`ū lakum fakhshawhum fazādahum-iymānan waqālū ḥasbunallāhu wani`mal wakīl
Those who were told: "They have gathered an army, beware," and their faith increased and they said: "God is sufficient for us, and the best of protectors,"

174

فَٱنقَلَبُوا۟ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَفَضْلٍ لَّمْ يَمْسَسْهُمْ سُوٓءٌ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ رِضْوَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَظِيمٍ
fanqalabū bini`matim minallāhi wafaḍlin lam yamsas-hum sū-un wattaba`ū riḍwānallāh ۗ wallāhu dhū faḍlin `aẓīm
And returned with God's favour and grace without harm, for they attended the pleasure of God; and great is the benevolence of God.

175

إِنَّمَا ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ يُخَوِّفُ أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥ فَلَا تَخَافُوهُمْ وَخَافُونِ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
innamā dhālikumush shayṭānu yukhawwifu awliyā-ahu falā takhāfūhum wakhāfūni in kuntum mu-minīn
It is no one but Satan who frightens you with his allies. But do not fear him, fear Me, if indeed you are believers.

176

وَلَا يَحْزُنكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْكُفْرِ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ لَن يَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًٔا ۗ يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَلَّا يَجْعَلَ لَهُمْ حَظًّا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ
walā yaḥzunkal ladhīna yusāri`ūna fil kufr ۚ innahum lan yaḍurrullāha shay-ā ۗ yurīdullāhu allā yaj`ala lahum ḥaẓẓan fil-ākhirah ۖ walahum `adhābun `aẓīm
And do not be grieved by those who rush into disbelief. They do no harm to God; and God will not give them any share in the life to come, and their torment shall be great.

177

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ ٱلْكُفْرَ بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ لَن يَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًٔا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
innal ladhīnash-tarawul kufra bil-iymāni lan yaḍurrullāha shay-an walahum `adhābun alīm
Those who barter unbelief for faith, will not harm God in the least, and the punishment for them will be painful.

178

وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَا نُمْلِى لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لِّأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِى لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوٓا۟ إِثْمًا ۚ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ
walā yaḥsabannal ladhīna kafarū annamā numlī lahum khayrul li-anfusihim ۚ innamā numlī lahum liyazdādū ithmā ۚ walahum `adhābun muhīn
The unbelievers must not think that the respite We give them augurs well. We do so that they sink deeper into sin, and suffer an ignominious doom.

179

مَّا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّىٰ يَمِيزَ ٱلْخَبِيثَ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبِ ۗ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُطْلِعَكُمْ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَجْتَبِى مِن رُّسُلِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ ۖ فَـَٔامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِۦ ۚ وَإِن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَلَكُمْ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ
mā kānallāhu liyadharal mu-minīna `alā mā antum `alayhi ḥattā yamīzal khabītha minaṭ ṭayyib ۗ wa mā kānallāhu liyuṭli`akum `alal-ghaybi walākinnallāha yajtabī min rusulihi man yashā-u ۖ fa-āminū billāhi warusulih ۚ wa in tu-minū watattaqū falakum ajrun `aẓīm
God will not leave the believers in the state they are in till He has sifted the evil from the good; nor will God reveal the secrets of the Unknown. He chooses (for this) from His apostles whom He will. So believe in God and the prophets, for if you believe and fear the displeasure of God your reward will be great.

180

وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ هُوَ خَيْرًا لَّهُم ۖ بَلْ هُوَ شَرٌّ لَّهُمْ ۖ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ مَا بَخِلُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ وَلِلَّهِ مِيرَٰثُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ
walā yaḥsabannal ladhīna yabkhalūna bimā ātāhumullāhu min faḍlihi huwa khayral lahum ۖ bal huwa sharrul lahum ۖ sayuṭawwaqūna mā bakhilū bihi yawmal qiyāmah ۗ walillāhi mīrāthus samāwāti wal-arḍ ۗ wallāhu bimā ta`malūna khabīr
Let not those who are niggardly of things that God has given them of His largesse think that this is good for them. In fact, it is worse; for what they grudged will be hung around their necks on the Day of Resurrection. To God belong the heavens and the earth, and God is aware of all you do.

181

لَّقَدْ سَمِعَ ٱللَّهُ قَوْلَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ فَقِيرٌ وَنَحْنُ أَغْنِيَآءُ ۘ سَنَكْتُبُ مَا قَالُوا۟ وَقَتْلَهُمُ ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَنَقُولُ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلْحَرِيقِ
laqad sami`allāhu qawlal ladhīna qālū innallāha faqīrun wanaḥnu aghniyā-u ۘ sanaktubu mā qālū waqatlahumul-anbiyā-a bighayri ḥaqqin wanaqūlu dhūqū `adhābal ḥarīq
God has indeed heard the words of those who said: "God is a pauper whereas we are rich." We shall make a note of their words, and the murders of the prophets they committed unjustly, and say to them: "Now taste the agony of burning."

182

ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ
dhālika bimā qaddamat aydīkum wa-annallāha laysa biẓallāmin lil`abīd
This is (requital) for the deeds you had committed, for God is not unjust to any of His creatures.

183

ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَآ أَلَّا نُؤْمِنَ لِرَسُولٍ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَنَا بِقُرْبَانٍ تَأْكُلُهُ ٱلنَّارُ ۗ قُلْ قَدْ جَآءَكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِّن قَبْلِى بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَبِٱلَّذِى قُلْتُمْ فَلِمَ قَتَلْتُمُوهُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ
alladhīna qālū innallāha `ahida ilaynā allā nu-mina lirasūlin ḥattā ya-tiyanā biqurbānin ta-kuluhun nār ۗ qul qad jā-akum rusulun min qablī bil bayyināti wabil ladhī qultum falima qataltumūhum in kuntum ṣādiqīn
To those who say: "God has ordained that we should not believe an apostle who does not bring burnt offerings," say: "Many an apostle had come to you before me with manifest proofs, even with what you mention; then why did you kill them if you were men of truth?"

184

فَإِن كَذَّبُوكَ فَقَدْ كُذِّبَ رُسُلٌ مِّن قَبْلِكَ جَآءُو بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلزُّبُرِ وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُنِيرِ
fa-in kadhhabūka faqad kudhhiba rusulun min qablika jā-ū bil bayyināti waz zuburi wal kitābil munīr
If they call you a liar (remember) so had other apostles been called before you, who had come with clear signs and Scriptures and the Book enlightening.

185

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ وَإِنَّمَا تُوَفَّوْنَ أُجُورَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۖ فَمَن زُحْزِحَ عَنِ ٱلنَّارِ وَأُدْخِلَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ فَقَدْ فَازَ ۗ وَمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلْغُرُورِ
kullu nafsin dhā-iqatul mawt ۗ wa innamā tuwaffawna ujūrakum yawmal qiyāmah ۖ faman zuḥziḥa `anin nāri wa-udkhilal-jannata faqad fāz ۗ wa mal ḥayātud dunyā illā matā`ul ghurūr
Every soul will know the taste of death. You will get your recompense in full on the Day of Resurrection; and he who is spared the Fire and finds his way to Paradise will meet his desire. As for the life of this world, it is nothing but a merchandise of vanity.

186

لَتُبْلَوُنَّ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِكُمْ وَأَنفُسِكُمْ وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوٓا۟ أَذًى كَثِيرًا ۚ وَإِن تَصْبِرُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ
latublawunna fī amwālikum wa-anfusikum walatasma`unna minal ladhīna ūtul kitāba min qablikum wa minal ladhīna ashrakū adhan kathīrā ۚ wa in taṣbirū watattaqū fa-inna dhālika min `azmil-umūr
You will, nonetheless, be tried with your wealth and life, and will hear many untoward things from the followers of former Books and the infidels. But if you endure with patience and follow the straight path, it will surely (accord) with God's fixed resolve about human affairs.

187

وَإِذْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِيثَـٰقَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُۥ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُۥ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَٱشْتَرَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۖ فَبِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُونَ
wa idh akhadhallāhu mīthāqal ladhīna ūtul kitāba latubayyinunnahu linnāsi walā taktumūnahu fanabadhūhu warā-a ẓuhūrihim washtaraw bihi thamanan qalīlā ۖ fabi-sa mā yashtarūn
And remember when God took a promise from the people of the Book to make its (truth) known to mankind, and not keep back any part of it, they set aside (the pledge), and sold it away for a little gain but how wretched the bargain that they made!

188

لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَآ أَتَوا۟ وَّيُحِبُّونَ أَن يُحْمَدُوا۟ بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا۟ فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُم بِمَفَازَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
lā taḥsabannal ladhīna yafraḥūna bimā ataw wayuḥibbūna an yuḥmadū bimā lam yaf`alū falā taḥsabannahum bimafāzatim minal `adhāb ۖ walahum `adhābun alīm
Think not that those who exult at what they have done, and who love to be praised for what they have not done, shall escape the punishment, for grievous indeed will be their doom.

189

وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
walillāhi mulkus samāwāti wal-arḍ ۗ wallāhu `alā kulli shay-in qadīr
For God's is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and God's is the power over all things.

190

إِنَّ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّأُو۟لِى ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ
inna fī khalqis samāwāti wal-arḍi wakhtilāfil layli wan nahāri la-āyātin li-ulil-albāb
In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, are signs for the wise.

191

ٱلَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ ٱللَّهَ قِيَـٰمًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىٰ جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَـٰذَا بَـٰطِلًا سُبْحَـٰنَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ
alladhīna yadhkurūnallāha qiyāman waqu`ūdan wa`alā junūbihim wayatafakkarūna fī khalqis samāwāti wal-arḍi rabbanā mā khalaqta hādhā bāṭilan subḥānaka faqinā `adhāban nār
Those who honour God in meditation, standing or sitting or lying on their sides, who reflect and contemplate on the creation of the heavens and the earth, (and say) "Not in vain have You made them. All praise be to You, O Lord, preserve us from the torment of Hell.

192

رَبَّنَآ إِنَّكَ مَن تُدْخِلِ ٱلنَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُۥ ۖ وَمَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ
rabbanā innaka man tudkhilin nāra faqad akhzaytah ۖ wa mā liẓẓālimīna min anṣār
Whoever, O Lord, should be cast into Hell shall be verily disgraced; and the sinners shall have none to help (or save) them.

193

رَّبَّنَآ إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِى لِلْإِيمَـٰنِ أَنْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَـَٔامَنَّا ۚ رَبَّنَا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّا سَيِّـَٔاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ
rabbanā innanā sami`nā munādiyan yunādī lil-iymāni an āminū birabbikum fa-āmannā ۚ rabbanā faghfir lanā dhunūbanā wakaffir `annā sayyi-ātinā watawaffanā ma`al-abrār
We have heard, O our Lord, the crier call inviting us to faith (and announcing): 'Believe in your Lord.' O our Lord, to faith we have come, so forgive our trespasses, deliver us from sin, and grant us (the glory of) death with the just.

194

رَبَّنَا وَءَاتِنَا مَا وَعَدتَّنَا عَلَىٰ رُسُلِكَ وَلَا تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ ٱلْمِيعَادَ
rabbanā wa-ātinā mā wa`adtanā `alā rusulika walā tukhzinā yawmal qiyāmah ۗ innaka lā tukhliful mī`ād
Give us what You promised, O Lord, through Your prophets; and put us not to shame on the Day of Reckoning, for never do You go back on Your promise."

195

فَٱسْتَجَابَ لَهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ أَنِّى لَآ أُضِيعُ عَمَلَ عَـٰمِلٍ مِّنكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ ۖ بَعْضُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْضٍ ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا۟ وَأُخْرِجُوا۟ مِن دِيَـٰرِهِمْ وَأُوذُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِى وَقَـٰتَلُوا۟ وَقُتِلُوا۟ لَأُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَلَأُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ثَوَابًا مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عِندَهُۥ حُسْنُ ٱلثَّوَابِ
fastajāba lahum rabbuhum annī lā uḍī`u `amala `āmilin minkum min dhakarin aw unthā ۖ ba`ḍukum min ba`ḍ ۖ fal ladhīna hājarū wa-ukhrijū min diyārihim wa-ūdhū fī sabīlī waqātalū waqutilū la-ukaffiranna `anhum sayyi-ātihim wala-udkhilannahum jannātin tajrī min taḥtihal-anhāru thawāban min `indillāh ۗ wallāhu `indahu ḥusnuth thawāb
The Lord heard their prayer and answered: "I suffer not the good deeds of any to go waste, be he a man or a woman: The one of you is of the other. And those who were deprived of their homes or banished in My cause, and who fought and were killed, I shall blot out their sins and admit them indeed into gardens with rippling streams." -- A recompense from God, and the best of rewards is with God.

196

لَا يَغُرَّنَّكَ تَقَلُّبُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ
lā yaghurrannaka taqallubul ladhīna kafarū fil bilād
Be not deceived by the comings and goings of unbelievers in the land.

197

مَتَـٰعٌ قَلِيلٌ ثُمَّ مَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۚ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ
matā`un qalīlun thumma ma-wāhum jahannam ۚ wabi-sal mihād
Their commerce is but short-lived, and then their abode shall be Hell: And what an evil abode!

198

لَـٰكِنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ رَبَّهُمْ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا نُزُلًا مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِّلْأَبْرَارِ
lākinil ladhīnat-taqaw rabbahum lahum jannātun tajrī min taḥtihal-anhāru khālidīna fīhā nuzulan min `indillāh ۗ wa mā `indallāhi khayrul lil-abrār
But those who are pious and obedient to their Lord, will have gardens with streams of running water where they will abide as guests of God; and what is with God is best for the pious.

199

وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَمَن يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ خَـٰشِعِينَ لِلَّهِ لَا يَشْتَرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۗ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
wa inna min ahlil kitābi laman yu-minu billāhi wa mā unzila ilaykum wa mā unzila ilayhim khāshi`īna lillāhi lā yashtarūna bi-āyātillāhi thamanan qalīlā ۗ ulā-ika lahum ajruhum `inda rabbihim ۗ innallāha sarī`ul ḥisāb
Certainly among the people of the Book are some who believe in God and in what has been revealed to you and had been revealed to them; and they bow in humility before God, and do not trade for paltry gain the signs of God. Their reward is verily with their Lord; and swift is the reckoning of God!

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱصْبِرُوا۟ وَصَابِرُوا۟ وَرَابِطُوا۟ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanuṣ-birū waṣābirū warābiṭū wattaqullāha la`allakum tufliḥūn
So you who believe, have endurance in suffering, be patient and persevere, strengthen each other and be firm, and be pious and fear God that you may find success.
